Housing in the Dominican Republic? Which is better for a few yrs - apt or house? Which area’s best?

I’m partial to the Puerto Plata, Sosúa, Cabarete area, but I really only need running water wherever I’ll live, and don’t mind the Santiago or Santo Domingo areas. Really, ANY location is fine with me as long as I have running water and maybe a grocery store nearby. Any suggestions?

Have you been to the Dominican Republic?

Can someone tell me what it is like in the Dominican Republic. I am going there this summer. I am going to be staying in a missions compound in Hato Mayor. I am flying into Puerto Plata. If you could give me some insight as to what I will be facing that would be great!
